We’ve all had that moment where you stare wistfully at your tablet or smartphone and wish you could be getting more enjoyment out of it. I mean, it’s not like they’re primarily meant to be productivity devices! They’re there to give us some entertainment as well.

This goes beyond movies and YouTube of course: indeed, most of us want to play games on our devices. With hundreds of developers constantly working on game apps for tablets and smartphones, there’s bound to be a decent amount of new software for you to choose from at any given moment.

Here you’ll find some of the better games released this year, as well as a few standouts from the last few years. This is a diverse selection: some of these are more expensive, some have free versions, and others are “freemium” (you have to pay for certain features and add-ons).
